Focus on: Jo - Assistant to the Association Secretary

Jo - Assistant to the Association SecretaryI came to work for Guide Dogs because it is a much loved and well respected brand. And I have to admit, although we are a disability charity, the dogs were a big attraction.

I am the Assistant to the Association Secretary. This role sits within the Chief Executive's team. The Association Secretary has responsibility for the governance of the Charity, making sure it is compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements and that the decisions of the Board of Trustees are implemented. Essentially our role is to make sure the charity is run as it should be.

As the Assistant I work closely with the Trustees providing project support, arranging Trustee recruitment, induction and training, organising events (including the AGM) and supporting various meetings.

I enjoy my job because I get to work with people across the whole organisation. It is also humbling to work with the Trustees. People sometimes forget that they are volunteers and I have a lot of respect for the huge commitment that they make.

I have the satisfaction of knowing that my job helps to ensure that we are effective and compliant in what we do which ultimately benefits the people that we help. If I am having a bad day I always think of some of the many inspiring stories I've heard about how our dogs have literally transformed lives.
