Focus on: Joel - Engagement Officer

Having been registered blind since birth Joel and his guide dog Atkinsand a guide dog owner for over five years, I have a good understanding of the barriers blind and partially sighted people have to overcome in order to live life the way they want to.

As Community Engagement Officer for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West Sussex, I promote the charity’s services and raise awareness of Guide Dogs' campaigns. I work on access issues to ensure that services and local environments are accessible. I also engage with organisations to explore collaborative partnership opportunities.

I was inspired to work for Guide Dogs as I want to help others in a similar situation to myself; I wanted to make them aware of the charity’s services and support available. Atkins, my guide dog, has made a huge difference to my mobility and independence. I am excited about working for Guide Dogs and want to make the world a more inclusive, supportive place for blind and partially sighted people.
