Build Diary: June 2011
June was a very busy month at the centre as staff, dogs and volunteers continued to settle into their new surroundings.
And staff were kept busy looking after the first litter at the new centre, which were born at the end of May to brood bitch Helga.
Not only is Helga a star for being the centre’s first mum but she has also fostered two other guide dog puppies who were born a couple of days ahead of her own.
Following Helga – seven brood bitches have given birth in the new facilities. All have been very relaxed and enjoying the greater freedom with the new design of kennels.
There was also a friends and family day, to thank the staff and volunteers who have helped make the centre a reality. In addition an open day for the breed stock volunteers to tour the site.
On a construction front, work moved across to the old Tollgate House site. The kennels have been demolished, in preparation for returning the site to green fields. The practical completion for this work is anticipated on July 27th.
