Experiencing our campaigns

Theresa Higgins, Deputy Mayor Of Colchester On Golf Course With Karen Mumford Our Experience Day held in Colchester on July 19th proved a popular social gathering for our local guide dog owners, puppy walkers and other volunteers who popped in for a refreshing cuppa, many of whom had been out on the streets as collectors for the local fundraising branch.

A number of potential new owners had a go with one of our training dogs while friends and family and members of the public were able to experience for a short moment what it is like to live without sight by participating in our other activities. These included trying on simulation spectacles and in blindfold trying to guess what they were touching in our sensory box.

The Deputy Mayor of Colchester Theresa Higgins and others tried their luck at getting a hole in one on our mini golf stand however they had to negotiate around several obstacles such as wheelie bins, advertising boards and a car on the pavement all of which create a major hazard for those who are blind or partially sighted.

A very big thank you to everyone who helped make this day happen and to those who supported us by visiting on the day.
