MP Gets It!

MP David Amess being guidedOn 31 January 2014 members of the Guide Dogs Welwyn Garden City Mobility Team met with Conservative MP David Amess in Leigh On Sea, Essex. He enthusiastically participated in a blindfold walk through 3 different phases i.e. sighted guiding, handled walk and an experience with a training guide dog. During the exercise he expressed on several occasions that it had been a unique experience which had brought home the difficulties faced by people who are blind or partially sighted in negotiating a built up environment. Jill Allen-king a guide dog owner and a member of David's constituency has often complained about the lack of appropriate tactile markings at kerb edges around her home town, "Now I get it!" he exclaimed realising how important these road markings are.

We discussed several of our campaigns with David who has agreed to lend us his support where appropriate.
