Living our Legacy

This October, Guide Dogs is Volunteers and members of staff during Remember A Charity weekhighlighting the importance of Gifts in Wills and my conversation with stud dog holder Chris Baker demonstrates the legacy you can leave with your time, as well as your money.

Chris' stud dog Lewis, has already produced one legacy stud dog called Nixon who is being puppy walked by fellow tour guide Pauline Ellis.

Chris told me, “Lewis is a handsome dog. He also has a very pleasant nature and is loved by all our grandchildren.

We feel very privileged to have him living with us. We gain particular pleasure from seeing the puppies that he has sired and knowing that his legacy will be a series of guide dogs stretching into the future.

In one year we have met a lot of people, taken part in training classes and learned a lot. Being a stud dog holder led to another opportunity, namely being a tour guide at the National Breeding Centre. This has been both interesting and rewarding.

One meets many different people from a multitude of backgrounds and the opportunity to raise awareness of Guide Dogs and encourage others to become involved is one not to be missed.”
