A Dogs Unite hero in the making
Meet Barney: the eight-year-old flat coat retriever on a very important mission. On 26 March, Barney and his owners Jos and Bob Mahon set off to walk the length of Great Britain and raise money for Guide Dogs.
The 1,200-mile walk is from Land’s End to John O’Groats, and the trio will be spending three months doing the walk and exploring. Barney is an experienced trekker and has done long walks before, including completing 220 of the 282 Munros in Scotland, but this is undoubtedly an incredible challenge!
The Mahons have a history of sight loss in the family and are aiming to raise £2,500 for Guide Dogs, the Dogs Unite team are incredibly proud to support them!
If you can, visit their Just Giving page and help Barney achieve his fundraising target.
Dogs Unite is a series of sponsored dog walks taking place across the UK, the only event of its kind, where your dog gets sponsored to take part. By attending or organising a Dogs Unite event your dog will become a hero for the day, helping raise much needed money for their guide dog canine friends who are genuine heroes every day for their owners.
Did you know that it costs around £50,000 to raise a guide dog from birth until retirement? The Guide Dogs organisation only charges a nominal 50p to each new owner, so as to not restrict anyone who needs a guide dog from having one.
If this story has inspired you, you can be our hero
too: sign up to join a Dogs Unite event near you, or do your own My Dogs Unite Walk, like Barney.
