VDU use and the law
If you are required to work at a computer screen as an habitual part of your job, your employer is legally obliged to pay for an eye and eyesight test administered by a qualified professional and for any prescription spectacles needed specifically to carry out your computer work.
The relevant piece of legislation - the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 - is available from Her Majesty’s Stationery Office. You can also view it on online.
