Remember remember the 5th of November…

Bonfire night is fast approaching and children will soon be tracing their name with sparklers. The air will be filled with the smell of toasted marshmallows and fireworks will light up the sky. Meet our Newest Recruits!

As we say goodbye to our great British summer and open our arms to autumn, everyone at Guide Dogs is very excited! We are thrilled to announce that our puppies Zeb, Ava and Yazmin have now begun their life-changing journey to becoming guide dogs. They will spend the next 12-14 months with their puppy walkers; during which time they will learn basic obedience, such as sit, stay and wait, and attend lots of puppy classes to learn and experience new environments and social situations. With our three adorable puppies moving onto the first stage of their training, we would like to introduce our eager young pups joining the Sponsor a Puppy family, who are all set to start their new fulfilling journey with Guide Dogs. Schools Out for Summer!

Summer holidays are here for students, but our pups are still working hard at training school as there are thousands of people with sight loss awaiting a life-changing guide dog. When our pups are six weeks old they begin training with their puppy walkers. This is the first phase of their training and at this stage they will be introduced to lots of new sights and sounds and learn basic commands such as ‘sit’ and ‘down.’ Read the full post

Meet our Guide Dog Mobility Instructors!

Guide Dog Mobility Instructors have the important job of bringing together all of the training our dogs have learnt up to that point, so that they are one day able to guide people with sight loss. They teach the dog to start making decisions on their own, as opposed to doing as their trainer is asking. They also train people to getting used to being with the dog and the care for a guide dog once they have been paired. Read the full post

Meet our new recruits

Each one of our puppies is extremely special as they are all on the path to transform the life of a blind or partially sighted person. Our puppies, Hudson, Isaac and Ivy, have now begun their journey and are all settled in with their puppy walkers, who they will spend the next 12–14 months with. Read the full post

Independent Ladies

Something we at Guide Dogs really pride ourselves on is the way we, the puppies, trainers, volunteers and service users all work so hard to ensure people who are blind and partially sighted can access their right to independence. We will not rest until our vision of a society where everyone enjoys the same independence and freedom of movement is achieved. Read the full post
