Specsavers aims to raise pounds for pups
The company, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, initially aims to raise more than £100,000 to help train 20 new Guide Dog puppies – one for every year that it’s been in business.
Specsavers co-founder Mary Perkins says the outstanding work that Guide Dogs do for blind and partially sighted people across the UK make them an ideal charity to support.
She said: “We wanted to work with a UK sight-related charity that had a direct interface with the communities in which we serve. As Guide Dogs help thousands of blind and partially-sighted people at grassroots level every year, they were the perfect choice.”
Guide Dogs also campaigns on the issue of eye health, with the aim of encouraging everyone to take greater care of their eyes. The charity is committed to eye health education and has invested more than £8 million into research into the causes of eye conditions.
Sue Garrott, Guide Dogs’ corporate partnership and events manager, said:
“Guide Dogs and Specsavers share a common goal in promoting the importance of eye care, so we are delighted with this partnership. Specsavers’ staff have really impressed us with their enthusiastic and energetic approach to fundraising!”
Guide Dogs will replace Sight Savers International as Specsavers’ nominated charity. The opticians’ raised well over £200,000 during a two-year partnership with Sight Savers, which helps prevent and treat blindness in developing countries.
