Young Pups Take the Lead at Guide Dogs

26 Nov 2013

Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day 2013On Friday 22 November, young people from across the UK took over Guide Dogs for the day. The activities were organised as part of Children's Commissioner's Takeover Day 2013, a national event ledParticipants from Children's Commissioner's Takeover Day by the Children's Commissioner for England which gives children and young people the chance to shadow jobs, get involved in decision-making and offer their opinions on key issues.

Four young people spent the day meeting with Guide Dogs Chief Executive, Richard Leaman, and other members of senior staff as well as a guide dog owner and volunteer. The young supporters then worked as a team to develop ideas for the charity which they later presented to key staff including the Guide Dogs Innovation Manager, Beth Marsh.

Richard Leaman, Chief Executive at Guide Dogs said:

"Guide Dogs are delighted to have taken part in the Children's Takeover Day, our young supporters never cease to amaze me with their barrels full of enthusiasm. It was a huge honour to have them along to our central office for the day, to meet and work alongside them. Young people such as these are the next generation of volunteers, fundraisers, campaigners, press officers and chief executives. During our Children's Takeover Day we wanted to give them a first-hand experience of what could be their future career."
