I’M A CELEBRITY … GET ME OUT OF HERE! donates to Text Santa

12 Nov 2014

This year Guide Dogs will benefit via Text Santa from I’M A CELEBRITY… GET ME OUT OF HERE! when it returns this Sunday as 15p from every phone vote will be donated to the Text Santa Appeal.

Sara Hanson, ITV’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility said: “It is great news that I’M A CELEBRITY…GET ME OUT OF HERE! is helping Text Santa with a substantial donation. Equally helpful is raising awareness of Text Santa to all the viewers who may be able to find other ways of getting involved with the charities in their local communities.”

Text Santa raises money and awareness for six UK-based charities in the run-up to a star studded television appeal show which airs on 19 December. Alesha Dixon joins the presenter line-up of ITV’s Text Santa for the first time this year. The singer and Britain’s Got Talent judge will partner Paddy McGuinness joining Ant & Dec, Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley.

Jayne George, Director of Fundraising & Marketing at Guide Dogs, adds:” We are very proud to have been chosen as a Text Santa beneficiary for 2014’s appeal. This Christmas Day, 24 more people will lose their sight and the money contributed from votes will go to helping people who are living with sight loss get back to where they want to be in life. Guide Dogs is enabling people to experience truly life-changing moments every day.”

The Text Santa appeal has raised £15 million for charities since it started in 2011. All funds raised for Text Santa will be distributed equally between Teenage Cancer Trust, Guide Dogs, WellChild, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Alzheimer’s Society and Together for Short Lives. Text Santa doesn't only raise much needed funds for the six chosen charities but fosters long term relationships between them and the viewers, helping to create visibility for the charities beyond the televised appeal.

Guide Dogs will use the money to fund the training of approximately 100 puppies to become life changing guide dogs. With these 100 puppies, Guide Dogs have the potential to provide 700 years of mobility to people with sight loss.

It’s the fourth year of the show and supporting Text Santa for 2014 are Morrisons, Vodafone, and TheHut.com.
