Guide Dogs sends out call for young superstars for Student Volunteering Week 2015

23 Feb 2015

Staff also welcome the Nicest Job in Britain winner for the week

Guide Dogs is calling for students everywhere to donate an hour of their time to help change people’s lives for Student Volunteering Week, which starts today.

Whether it’s through a bake sale, donning fancy dress for a night out or a simple campus collection, in the space of one hour you can help us raise funds and awareness and make a real difference to the lives of people living with sight loss. And if you get the bug for volunteering, why not set up a student Guide Dogs fundraising society at your university?

Lara Rivans, Head of Volunteering at Guide Dogs, said: “Donating an hour to Guide Dogs for Student Volunteering Week is a great way for young people to get involved.

“There are fantastic benefits of volunteering for Guide Dogs – you can add practical and desirable skills to your CV, making you stand out from the crowd when it comes to finding a job. It can also help you make new friends!

“Guide Dogs changes the lives of thousands of people who are blind or partially sighted every year, something made possible with the support of volunteers and the spare time they give.”

To find out more about how you can help Guide Dogs, and to download a helpful fundraising pack, visit Student Volunteering Week. You can also Like the Volunteers at Guide Dogs (UK) Facebook page and follow @GuideDogs on Twitter to be kept up-to-date.

During Student Volunteering Week, Guide Dogs is welcoming Luke Cameron, who is doing The Nicest Job in Britain. The Nicest Job in Britain involves Luke spending a week with each of 45 different charities and third sector organisations during 2015. Luke was awarded the role by utilities consultancy, UA, as part of a campaign to encourage businesses and organisations to ‘do more good’.

Luke will be posting a daily video diary of his time with Guide Dogs, which you can follow on Guide Dogs’ Facebook page.
