Guide Dogs supports UK Vision Strategy 2015 General Election Manifesto

05 Feb 2015

Guide Dogs is proud to join the UK’s leading eye health and sight organisations to launch the UK Vision Strategy General Election Manifesto.

The Manifesto calls on politicians standing in the 2015 Election to prioritise eye care services, improve support for people who have lost their sight, and to promote a society that includes blind and partially sighted people.

The UK Vision Strategy 2015 General Election Manifesto sets out six effective interventions that will save sight and deliver a better quality of life for people living with sight loss. They are:

  • Improved access to transport and the built environment.
  • Rapid access to rehabilitation, habilitation and low vision services.
  • More people have access to a regular sight test, and better community eye care provision.
  • Timely access to high-quality specialist care, including cataract surgery and NICE-approved treatments for the main eye conditions.
  • Support in the eye clinic for people diagnosed with a sight-threatening condition.
  • Support with the extra financial costs of sight loss.

Guide Dogs Head of Strategy and Research, Jenny Cook, said: “Working in collaboration with other leading sight loss organisations means we can share our expertise and knowledge to develop a joint strategy and speak with one voice. We’re calling on politicians to recognise and prioritise these issues so, together, we can improve the lives of people with sight loss across the country.
