Guide Dogs calls for the government to ensure all quiet vehicles can be heard

26 Mar 2015

Today the government announced that it intends to invest £45 million pounds into ultra-low emission taxis across the UK and the Mayor of London announced an Ultra-Low Emission Zone in the city.

Guide Dogs is campaigning to ensure that all quiet vehicles can be heard to protect the safety of all pedestrians. Commenting on the announcement, James White, Campaigns Manager at Guide Dogs said;

"The government must ensure Ultra-low emissions vehicles can be heard to protect pedestrians from danger. Electric and hybrid vehicles are 40% more likely to injure a pedestrian than conventional vehicles and pose a huge risk to people who are living with sight loss. It is vital that these cars have sound generators to protect the safety of all pedestrians."
