Iggy has settled in well to family life

Iggy has settled in well to Blue Peter puppy Iggy paddling on the beachfamily life. She is a fabulous little puppy, if sometimes a little cheeky. From the day she arrived, we’ve made sure she is involved in every aspect of our lives, from coming along on the school run, to popping to down to the shops and local supermarket.

Alongside her training and socialising, Iggy has taken to being a TV star in her stride. I love seeing all the fantastic pictures the viewers send in; my favourite has to be the life-size papier-mâché model that was sent in which featured on the show in July.

Over the summer holidays, we have taken Iggy out and about on our days out with the children. She’s been to the swimming pool with us (to watch, not participate); to the farm and zoo; to the beach and we’ve even all slept in a wigwam in Scarborough! Every now and then Iggy will also go for sleep-overs with Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell, she always has a lovely time.

Whilst having all this fun, Iggy has also been hard at work with her training. She has really got the hang of whistle feeding and will sit and wait very patiently next to her food bowl until the three toots on the whistle. She’s currently on three meals a day so she gets lots of practice at this!

Iggy is also working on her Sit, Wait, Stay, Down and Heel commands, and, as with most dogs, a little treat is always a good incentive for compliance!

This month, we said goodbye to Bonnie, our first Guide Dog, who is now at “university” in the Atherton training centre. We were all a little tearful the day she went but we know this is the next stage of her fantastic journey to becoming a life-changer.

We lobed having Iggy at the Daisy Nook garden centre on 3rd October. Money was raised for GDBA Lots of photos were taken of Iggy anongst all the flower displays. I was lucky enought enough to have my photo taken with Iggy, once I had been given pernission from my guide dog Phe. Its a photo I will treasure. Best wishes June.
