Going for 80 in Scotland
We’re pleased to say there’s no let-up in the preparations for Guide Dogs Week. We’ve just heard from the South Scotland District Team, who will be inviting the people of Edinburgh, Dumfries, Livingston and the Borders to walk blindfold through shopping centres and pay £1 for the experience. Of course, they’ll be doing it under the expert supervision of our Guide Dog Mobility Instructors and learning a bit about what it’s like to be blind or partially sighted in the process.
By going for 80 blindfold walks, the team are hoping to raise a minimum of £80 per day during Guide Dogs Week.
As well as the big team events, lots of Guide Dogs staff and volunteers are going for 80 with their own individual challenges. One intrepid member of our Information Services team, Roger Whitton, is going to be canoeing 80 miles up the Kennet and Avon Canal. Others are getting people to sponsor them to lose weight, run for 80 minutes, walk to work…the list goes on.
This really is shaping up to be a great Guide Dogs Week. If you’re not yet involved, there’s still plenty of time – just visit the Guide Dogs Week web pages.
If you would like to get involved in Guide Dogs Week 2011, please contact your local volunteering office on 0845 371 7771 or your local fundraising team on 0870 600 2323.

Will the Going for 80 in Scotland also cover the Dunfermline area?
