Thank you - and keep blogging!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in Guide Dogs Week 2011.

It’s been fantastic to see so many people getting out and spreading the word about Guide Dogs’ life-changing work. We’ve done it in person, talking to people in the streets and at events; we’ve done it through the great media coverage we’ve had – in newspapers and magazines, on TV and radio; and we’ve done it online, through our website, and on Facebook and YouTube with our 80th anniversary video. If you haven’t seen the video yet, make sure you check it out – and share it with your friends!

The British public have really taken up the ‘go for 80’ challenge, with hundreds of activities taking place across the whole of the UK. From 80 miles of canoeing to 80s parties, dinners in the dark to musical extravaganzas, the variety of events has been staggering.

It’s really helped us make this year’s Guide Dogs Week a celebration – not just of the work we do to transform lives, but also of our hardworking and creative supporters, volunteers and staff who make it all happen. We’ve all had a great time and, crucially, the work we’ve put into Guide Dogs Week will help us reach out to more blind and partially sighted people with our vital services – which, at the end of the day, is what it’s all about.

We’ll be keeping this blog live for a few more weeks, so please share your stories with us – and watch out for news of next year’s Guide Dogs Week!

Guide dog owners, puppy walkers and volunteers with collecting buckets took to the streets of Edinburgh City Centre on the first day of Guide Dog Week 2011 raising nearly £500. Thank you very much to all involved.
