Training hard in Kent and East Sussex

In Kent and East Sussex, members of the District Team are really cracking on with the training for their event. They’re going to be doing an 80 mile walk along the Weald Way, from Gravesend to Eastbourne. They’ll cover about 16 miles a day over three days, in a relay system (in case you were struggling with the maths) and are hoping to raise about £800.

There’ll be three or four people doing the walk at any one time, with a few pet dogs going along to offer encouragement and boost morale.

District Team Manager Geraint Evans says, “Everyone’s really enthusiastic about the event. We did a twelve mile walk a couple of weeks ago to get a sense of the distance and were much faster than we expected – despite the pouring rain. We’re all really looking forward to it.”

The team is also organising three 80th birthday parties during Guide Dogs Week, in Bromley, Canterbury and Eastbourne.

“These will be informal ‘meet and greets’,” explains Geraint. “We’re expecting 30 to 50 people at each one and they’ll be a great opportunity for staff to meet volunteers and guide dog owners over a cup of tea and a piece of cake and celebrate 80 years of guide dog partnerships. Except, of course, for those who are still marching along the Weald Way. We promise we’ll save you a biscuit, guys!”
