Daysoft introduces new guide dog puppy Daysie

Daysoft(R) , the Scottish contact lens manufacturer, is celebrating this year’s Guide Dog Week by introducing its company sponsored guide dog puppy Daysie(R).

Daysoft, which is based in Blantyre, decided to sponsor a puppy because of the work the charity Guide Dogs does with blind and partially-sighted people.

Daysie is a seven week old lab-retriever. She is currently with her puppy walker, Doreen Stone, a Guide Dogs volunteer, who will socialise Daysie and get her used to different experiences, such as visiting shops and travelling on public transport.

When she is about 14 months old, Daysie will leave her puppy walker and go off to one of the Guide Dog Training Schools, where she will learn the skills needed to qualify as a guide dog.

Ron Hamilton, Chairman of Daysoft said:” Daysie embodies the values that are close to my heart as the founder and chairman of a company that deals with the need to take care of your eyes. She will become an ambassador for Daysoft as we continue to promote the importance of eye care to local people and she will go on to provide independence and mobility to a blind or partially-sighted person. “

This week (October 5th – October 11th) is official Guide Dog Week. This year the charity Guide Dogs is highlighting its plans to provide mobility services for blind and partially-sighted children and young people in the UK.

Guide Dogs have been piloting a scheme that trains under-16s who have sight loss or visual impairment to use guide dogs. It has been a success with the youngsters involved showing increased confidence and mobility and also doing better at school.

Further into her puppy walking it is planned to introduce Daysie to local schoolchildren as part of Daysoft’s commitment to help them learn about the importance of taking care of their eyes while they are growing up.

Gillian Moffitt, regional fundraising manager for Guide Dogs in Scotland, said: ”Breeding, training and supporting a guide dog partnership is an expensive undertaking. Guide dogs change lives and Daysoft’s much appreciated sponsorship support of puppy Daysie will help provide a blind or partially-sighted person with the means to live a full and independent life.”
