Guide Dogs pups, volunteers, staff and dog owners to star in ITV documentary
30 Jan 2013

ITV1 will air The Secret Life of Dogs this Thursday, 31 January at 9pm. The new, one-off, documentary will provide a unique and revealing insight into man’s best friend with Guide Dogs volunteers, staff and gorgeous puppies all making an appearance.
Guide Dogs worked closely with Oxford Scientific Films, the production company behind The Secret Life of Dogs, to help them shoot incredible footage of our amazing guide dog puppies. The documentary, narrated by Martin Clunes, will see a litter of our yellow Labrador puppies being born and will follow other guide dog Labradors as they grow up and develop.
The programme uses striking, slow-motion footage, thermal imaging and macro photography to explain the science behind all aspects of canine behaviour. Questions such as how dogs manage to catch Frisbees and why they make such a mess drinking will be answered.
We’ll see dogs of all shapes and sizes from different backgrounds, and hear about their extraordinary senses and how they can change and save people's lives.
Most importantly we’ll see guide dogs at their finest, from the moment they are born in our volunteers’ homes, starting their journey at the National Breeding Centre, living and learning with their puppy walkers and finally qualifying as working guide dogs.
A huge thank you to all those who helped out and got involved, we really couldn't have done it without you.
