Larkhall’s Scott and Travis are back for Travis Trek 6 – ‘The Legends Return’

Intrepid trekkers Scott Cunningham and his guide dog Travis – from Larkhall, South Lanarkshire – are back for their sixth mammoth trek, striding towards a £100,000 fundraising target for Guide Dogs.

The dynamic duo will be tackling the West Highland Way, from south to north. Starting at Milngavie on Sunday, 28 March, they will trek for seven days through the Scottish Highlands arriving in Fort William on Saturday 03 April.

Scott will be accompanied by the Ibrox Legends; former Rangers stars Terry Hurlock, Arthur Numan, Mark Hately, Alex Rae, Gordon Durie, John Brown  Andy Goram.

Members of the Royal Marine Commandos will be joining Scott and Travis for the start of their ‘triumphal march’ of over 100 miles, as they prepare to cross some of the most dramatic landscape in Scotland.

Scott says: “With £85,000 raised from my previous treks, our aim this year is to break the £100,000 barrier. When we started I never dreamed we could raise so much for Guide Dogs.  But over 500 miles later, averaging 100 miles a trek, I’m confident we can reach this fundraising landmark, and in doing so, show the world how remarkable the partnership is between guide dog and owner.”

Ibrox Legend, Terry Hurlock, added: “I loved every minute of last year’s trek; I had no hesitation in saying yes when asked if I would do it again. It’s great being able to help Scott and Travis raise so much money for such a worthwhile cause, enjoying the challenge and having many laughs with the supporters and my former team mates”

The team are inviting people to join them for parts of the trek:

Sunday, 28 March
Milngavie to Balmaha, 20 miles

Monday, 29 March
Balmaha to Inversnaid, 14 miles

Tuesday, 30 March

Wednesday 31 March

Says Scott: “My life changed in 2003 when I was partnered with my guide dog Travis.  He has given me life changing freedom and independence, and in acknowledgement of his role, he was voted Scottish Guide dog of the Year 2009. I wanted to give something back to The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association who made my independence possible; fundraising through the Travis Treks has been a wonderful and rewarding way to do this.”
