How will it work?
The pilot has been developmed to evaluate 30 partnerships, with information being gathered to determine the best method of delivery and ensure cost benefits are understood. This will then inform decisions about moving forward with a Buddy Dogs service and what that service will look like.
How can I apply?
During the pilot, applications for the Buddy Dogs service need to be addressed through your local mobility team. When pilot numbers are reached a waiting list will be established to capture enquiries for the service, which will be revisited if the service becomes business as usual or if the pilot is extended.
Other Buddy Dogs programmes
Similar programmes are run by other International Guide Dog Federation member organisations: Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind, Southern Ireland and San Rafael in the USA. Within the UK there are services such as Pets as Therapy (PAT) dogs and similar services run by other Assistance Dog UK organisations including Hearing Dogs and Dogs for the Disabled.
