  1. Darlington Town Centre

  2. Newcastle

    This busy shopping area in the centre of Newcastle is on a bus route and has no clear contrast between the pavement and the narrow bus lanes. Due to the narrow roadway, buses often encroach the footway making it dangerous for those who cannot see the buses, or cannot move out of their way quickly.

  3. Blackpool

    Although this scheme was launched as a shared surface, the council carried out a safety audit and it will be made traffic-free by summer 2010

  4. Poynton

    Proposals have been drawn up to create a shared surface in the village centre

  5. Barnsley

    Plans for this project will be very near to the Barnsley Blind and Partially Sighted Association

  6. Matlock

    A proposal has been put forward to include a shared surface and a decision has not yet been reached

  7. Coventry

    This shared street, next to the Pool Meadow bus station, is very busy with buses, taxis and cars using the area frequently. Blind and partially sighted people locally are reporting severe problems using the area safely.

    There are proposals to create a shared surface by the RSC theatre, which is undergoing

  11. Caernarfon Y Maes Square development

  12. Cheltenham

    A scheme is proposed to be built this year. We are asking the local council to consider the needs of blind and partially sighted people in the plans.

  13. Gloucester

    A square to be developed here will act as a shared surface. Southgate Street will be pedestrianised, but buses will still be allowed to run down there

  14. Coupar Angus

    Proposals are currently being discussed to develop this as a shared surface

  15. Brecon

    Proposals have been made to remove the bus and taxi gate, which would make the area more dangerous as there is already a shared surface scheme there

  16. Brecon

    Town centre streets were redeveloped in 2008 with dangerous shared surfaces in often narrow and busy roads. Local blind and partially sighted people have reported that they no longer feel safe or able to use the area.

    This busy bus route in the centre of town does not clearly contrast the footpath and bus lane making it difficult for blind and partially sighted pedestrians to use safely.
