Explosions, sirens and people rushing past. July 7, 2005 was no ordinary Thursday

I lost my sight when I was eight years old and today I rely almost entirely on my guide dog Tom to get around. On the day of the London bombings, I needed Tom more than ever before.

The world around me was chaotic. Tom was at my side when I needed him most.

The noise from the explosion was deafening. Police had cordoned off the roads while people were running to try and escape. There was absolute chaos, but it didn’t stop Tom from doing what he does best. It was only thanks to him that we got out of danger. If it hadn’t been for Tom’s training, I dread to think what could have happened.
Guide dogs do amazing things every day

Help us keep our lifetime promise

We make a commitment to provide people like Mike with a guide dog for as long as they need one. The working life of a guide dog is about six-and-a-half years. And many owners have up to eight dogs during their lifetime. It’s a lifelong promise that can change someone’s life forever. We can only keep this promise with your support.
