Membership
Join the Guide Dogs Association and have your say
When you become a member of Guide Dogs, you are entitled to have a say in how we run things by speaking and voting at our annual general meeting (AGM).
Your membership will help to guarantee the financial security of our services, and enable us to continue with our mission of ensuring that blind and partially sighted people enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else.
Who can apply?
Excluding current employees, membership is open to anyone who supports our mission and values. All applications are subject to approval by Guide Dogs’ governing council.
What will it cost?
There are two types of membership: Ordinary and Life. The only difference between the two is the membership fee – £20 per year for Ordinary Membership, or a one-off payment of £500 for Life Membership.
How does being a member guarantee the charity’s financial security?
Guide Dogs, like many other charities, is a registered as a charity but also as a company limited by guarantee. Unlike private companies which have shareholders, companies limited by guarantee have members. In the event of a shortfall in the charity’s funds, this means each member will make a ‘guarantee’ in the form of a contribution to our assets. This amount is currently just £1. In return, you are entitled to speak and vote at our AGM.
