Week 11 - Quella learns the toilet command

The next lesson in Quella's learning curve, is to do her toileting on command, and the word we use for this is 'busy' I usually say 'busy busy' the best way to start this training, is to always take puppy to the toilet area, renamed 'spending area' upon wakening, after play, after a meal, and generally at regular intervals, and as puppy starts to 'spend' repeat the word 'busy busy' and puppy will very soon learn, to associate the command with the act. I usually do this for about a month, to ensure that puppy really does understand, and believe me, it does work. This way it then becomes possible to ask puppy to be 'busy' prior to a lead walk, which usually results in a clean walk, which is invaluable to a Guide Dog owner.
This week I have been carrying Quella, out to visit different places, as she cannot walk out, until she has completed all her vaccinations. I have taken her to see all the traffic passing by, and to take in the noises that the traffic makes, and she appeared relaxed, turning her head from side to side, (a bit like watching a match at Wimbledon) taking it all in her stride. It is easier for a puppy to accept this new experience, from the security of 'mums' arms. I have also visited supermarkets with her, amidst all the oooh's! and aaaaws! from the public, seeing this little puppy trotting along, up and down the aisles, as I can put her down to walk in those places, because no other dogs visit there, so she is unlikely to pick up any infections, prior to having completed her vaccinations, the same applies to restaurants, it is safe to visit those places before Quella is fully vaccinated at twelve weeks of age.
