Week 15 - Hot weather = fun in the paddling pool

Quella is learning fast, she will readily 'spend' for me when I ask her to be 'busy'. She walks nicely at the moment on a loose lead, until she decides to just stop and sit down. I carry a small squeaky toy which I squeak a few paces in front of her to encourage her to carry on walking. Sometimes she will carry the toy which she focuses on, rather than the distractions around her. She would love to sniff at all the scents to be found around her, but she must be discouraged from doing this whilst she is on the lead. It's a bit tricky when the puppy is so small as its nose is so near to the ground, so I can’t take my eyes off her for a minute. They have to be discouraged from doing this, otherwise they would get into a bad habit, and Guide Dog Owners would never get where they needed to go if their dog had got into this bad habit. When a puppy is on a free run, which they have two or three times each week, then they can have a well earned good ole sniff.
The weather has been very warm this week, so I have filled a small paddling pool for the two pups to have a paddle. Maya was first in and almost emptied the water out, splashing about like a big whale. Quella was a little unsure at first, but when I stepped into the pool, she obviously trusted me and chose to follow me. To also help keep them cool I make ice cubes for them from beef stock cubes, as they are more tasty than plain cubes, they are also invaluable for Quella, to cool her tender gums down as her new teeth will be pushing through very soon.
