Week 22 - Quella makes the climb

I have been practising stairs with Quella this week. We went into a store, and she did manage a few, although very gingerly, with the help of a treat placed on each step, but after a few steps she decided to turn and come back down, despite there being treats placed further up. The problem with most stores is the stairs are quite shiny, and slippy for her paws, especially when she spreads her claws out to get a grip. The outside concrete ones are best where she can grip better, although they do need to master the ones in stores as their Guide Dog Owner may need to use them at some point, because not all stores have a lift, and dogs are not supposed to use escalators or travelators.
Once Quella will go up and down stairs confidently, I will ask her to remain with her two front paws on the first step by asking her to 'step' and then 'stand', the idea of this exercise is for me to gauge the size of the step with my foot before climbing the flight, as a Guide Dog Owner would do. Before coming down a flight of stairs I will ask her to 'sit' at the top and again I will gauge the size if the step with my foot, and then ask her to 'come' to descend the stairs. As I live in a bungalow I can not practise this at home.
Quella is a bit of a sun worshipper, she will always find a sunny spot in the lounge to lie in, and follow it as the sun moves round. If the back door is open, she will drag her bedding from her basket outside to a sunny spot on the patio, and then lie on the bedding in the sun. Talk about home comforts, she doesn't want to lay on the hard surface. It is so funny to watch her do this. I have tried returning her bedding to her basket, but she just drags it outside again to lay on.
