Week 34 - Luther comes to stay
We have had Luther back to stay, as his Puppy Walker is on holiday, a German Sheperd x Golden Retriever. It is only ten days since he was last here, and he has grown some, he is as tall as Quella now and he is only four months old, he is going to be a big boy. He was at puppy class the week before he came back, and Quella recognised him and made a bee-line for him. She thought she could have a good play with him, so I had to give him a wide berth during the class. Quella has now moved to the next class so they won't cross paths, until Luther moves up, and by that time she will have forgotten him.
During Luther’s stay we took them for a free run to Alyn Waters, where there is a river running through the park. Both dogs had a wonderful time running in and out of the river, where there were other dogs paddling and splashing about. At first I was a little unsure whether to let Luther off his lead, in case he wandered off, but as we were well away from the main road I took the chance. He was such a good boy he followed Quella round like a little lamb, bless him, in fact if Quella did go a little bit ahead of us, Luther hung back to wait for us, and he was first out of the river to come back to our side, he was such a pleasure to board. I had put him on a flexi lead to begin with, but the dogs just got tangled in the lead. Each time they ran in the water, I carried on walking slowly, they were obviously keeping their eyes on me, because as soon as they realised this, and without calling them, both dogs came bounding after me. Luther is still a very playful puppy, and is full on with his play, play and more play if he was allowed. I do separate them a lot for some 'time out. Quella never tires of Luther, she will always play with him and is so tolerant with him, even when he sinks his needle sharp teeth in to her, she will cry rather than tell him off, she is my little star. We took Luther on his first bus ride while he was here, which was a good idea, as I felt sure he would just trot on after Quella, and sure enough he did follow her, and he lay down as good as gold. On our return journey, they both lay down side by side, and Quella rested her head on Luther back, and they both slept like that for the duration of our journey, it was so cute to see them cuddled up to each other.
