Week 44 - Quella momentarily out of Liz's 'good book'

I have recently been calling Quella my 'little miss perfect' as she is so good to puppy walk. However, I'm afraid her halo has slipped and somewhat tarnished this week, and the reason I say this is while free running her this week, in a field close to my house, I saw her rolling in a corner of the field prior to romping back to my side, and then to my horror I discovered what she had been doing, she had been rolling in something absolutely foul smelling, and she was covered in it. I can only describe it to resemble scrambled eggs, it was also caked on her collar. I am guessing it was probably fox or badger faeces. On returning home, I couldn't let her in the house. I had to leave her in the garden while I drove to the next village, to call at the pet shop for some dog shampoo, and some doggy deodorant. I needed to get doggy shampoo as our shampoo should not be used to bath animals, as it can take the essential oils out of their coats, as most contain some sort of residue remover.
I have read more than once that ketchup applied to the dogs coat can neutralise the awful odour, I don't know if it works but anything was worth a try, and it certainly wouldn't do any harm, as it was getting shampood off straight away. Next, Quella was lifted into the bath for a real good soaking, she wasn't a happy bunny as it was new to her, but on this occasion she had no choice. After her shampoo I rinsed her with a shower tap to make sure all the shampoo was rinsed out of her coat, then dried her with several doggy towels. I then sprayed her liberally with the fragranced doggy deodorant, and can you believe that she still pongs a bit. She could end up back in the bath in a few days time. Quella has been called 'stinky Winky' this week, because despite spraying her regularly there is still a hint of pong. That field is now out of bounds to Quella. She is now 'little miss nearly perfect'.
On second thoughts, no, how could I, she is still my 'little miss perfect' and I love her to bits.
We have been on another bus journey this week, where Quella got the opportunity to observe an escalator, as we are not to take the puppies on escalators, although I believe some Guide Dog owners do take their dogs on them.
Quella coped very well on bonfire night, she was totally oblivious to the noises coming from the fireworks outside.

Aaaahhh nothing like the whiff foxy do do to send even the most well behaved dog into raptures. I guess you will be keeping Quella well away from the radiators until the pog is gone !

Believe me tomato sauce definitely works. Unfortunately one of our free running fields is home to many foxes and Rhia (a white lab/ret cross now aged 12 months) seems to know exactly where to find the smelliest deposit!!! We are now very adept at cleaning her off with tomato sauce and then a rinse with warm water.
