Trainee guide dog boarding - the facts!

A guide dog in training usually stays with their boarder for the whole of their time at Guide Dog Training School:

  • 10-12 weeks - for a dog in advanced guide dog training
  • 16 weeks - for a dog in early guide dog training
  • 26 weeks for both early and advanced guide dog training

We ask that boarders:

  • Bring the dog to the training school or mobility team office each weekday morning and collect it again each evening.
  • Undertake our boarder training programme.
  • Follow Guide Dogs rules for dog care and behaviour.

Unlike puppy walkers who must live in a home with a secure garden and an area of hard standing or a yard, trainee guide dog boarders don't necessarily need a garden especially for guide dogs training in cities.

Interested in puppy walking or boarding?

You don’t need any previous experience to be a Guide Dogs boarder or puppy walker for dogs like Luna or Clover! Guide Dogs provides full training as well as ongoing support.
