Access for all - Travel charter
Increasingly, guide dog owners are enjoying the benefits and freedom of travel, both at home and abroad. The owners and their dogs are given intensive training to prepare them to use various transport systems. But, despite a growing realisation amongst operators that offering adequate access to disabled people makes ethical and commercial sense, guide dog owners continue to experience difficulties in using all forms of transport.
During Guide Dog Week 2002, the 'Access for All' campaign targeted bus, coach, train, ferry and airline companies, inviting them to sign-up to the Guide Dog Travel Charter. Therefore showing their commitment to not only welcome guide dog owners, but also to ensure their staff are familiar with the needs of vision-impaired people.
