When does the challenge take place?
Walk Your Socks Off runs from 4 May 2020 to 31 May 2020. At point of sign up you will select the week in May that you want to complete the challenge within or if you aren’t sure yet you can select “I'm choosing my own dates in May”.
Is there a registration fee?
No, it’s free to sign up but we recommend you set a minimum fundraising target of £100 to be raised through sponsorship, that’s just 1p for every 10 steps! It’s a great challenge, so getting sponsorship should be a walk in the park.
We would love you to raise more than £100 but understand that this isn’t always possible therefore everyone who raises over £50 will receive a pair of socks.
Is there a minimum age for taking part in Walk Your Socks Off?
We ask that all participants who sign up for this event are aged 16 or over, however children can take part in a group as long as an adult signs up and takes responsibility.
Can I complete the 100,000 steps as part of a team?
New to this year is Walk Your Socks Off for groups! Take part with your colleagues, classmates, youth group, friends or family to take on our 100,000 step challenge. Complete the steps individually over a week, a weekend or collectively complete the steps in a day, the choice is yours!
To calculate your group fundraising total just multiply £50 (£10 for children under 16) by the number of those in your group and get working together to hit your fundraising target. If you achieve your total group target we will reward everyone with an exclusive pair of Guide Dogs socks (children’s sock also available).

What happens after I sign up?
We’ll send you a welcome email once you’ve signed up with more details on your challenge as well as a reminder of your chosen week in the post. You’ll also receive more emails from us during the weeks leading up to the challenge and throughout your chosen challenge week. These emails will be packed with ideas on how to complete your steps, tips on fundraising and messages from people who have benefitted from our Guide Dogs’ services.
You can also join our dedicated Facebook group to be part of a community who are taking on the Walk Your Socks Off challenge!
Will I receive a welcome pack?
Due to Walk Your Socks Off being a virtual challenge we will not be sending welcome packs however, you will receive a reminder in the post as well as emails to support you throughout your journey.
What are the socks like?
Our talented designers have literally worked their socks off to create a new unique design and we can’t wait to send you a pair! The adult socks come as a ‘one size fits all’ but are approximately size 5 - 7. Children’s socks (approximately sized 12 – 3.5) are available to all under 16 participants but can be sent to individuals on special request – please email us if you require a pair of child’s socks instead of adults at email@example.com
Please note, socks may shrink when washed. Please wash at a low temperature.
Can I buy any other merchandise?
Can I take part without being sponsored?
Walk Your Socks Off is a challenge to raise vital funds for Guide Dogs’ life-changing services, so we are very grateful for any sponsorship you can generate. Check out our fundraising tips and ideas page to get you off to a good start.
How much do I need to raise to get the socks?
As long as you’ve raised at least £50 by 12th June 2020, you’ll receive a pair of exclusive Guide Dogs socks in return for your amazing efforts. For those taking part in a group you will need to raise £50 (or £10 for children) multiplied by the amount of people within your group in order to all receive your socks. You’ll be asked how many kids/adult socks you need at point of sign up if you are in a group.
How will Guide Dogs spend the donations I raise?
Guide Dogs relies on donations to continue our life-changing work. Every pound raised makes a difference to people in the UK living with sight loss. The money you raise will help us provide life-changing services for thousands of people with a vision impairment. From covering the costs of our working guide dogs, including food, vets’ bills and ongoing training, to empowering young people with sight loss by teaching them independent living skills. We couldn’t do this vital work without our amazing supporters like you.
What is JustGiving and why use it?
JustGiving is an online fundraising platform to help you manage your sponsorship. Once you’ve signed up for Walk Your Socks Off you’ll be prompted to create a fundraising page by logging into your existing JustGiving account or creating an account if you’re a new user.
It’s an easy way for you to manage your sponsorship and submit your donations online. Once you’ve created a JustGiving page you can customise this with your personal story, photos, details of your fundraising goal and progress. Your sponsorship total will automatically update on the Walk Your Socks Off leader board so you could be a Sock Star! For help with customising your page, visit the JustGiving help centre.
How can I collect sponsorship?
How do I pay in my fundraising?
JustGiving transfers donations to Guide Dogs automatically so you do not need to do anything.
