Today marks International Women's Day, a day earmarked to celebrate the indomitable spirit of women across the globe. I find myself reflecting on my journey, not just as a woman but as a blind woman navigating a world designed for the sighted.

This day serves as a poignant reminder of the collective and individual strength of women, especially those of us within the disability community, striving to make significant contributions in our unique ways.

International Women's Day is not just a day to celebrate the achievements of women; it's a clarion call for equality, inclusivity, and recognition of diversity within our achievements. It underscores the importance of every woman's voice, including those of us who experience the world differently due to our disabilities.

It's a day that highlights the power of women creating substantial change within the world and within their local communities. As a disabled woman, it's paramount for me to use this day to amplify my voice, showcasing that my blindness does not define my capacity to achieve my goals and aspirations.

My journey has been one of resilience, passion, and a relentless pursuit of my dreams. Working full-time as a Digital Technology Content Officer, I am at the forefront of making technology accessible to all. This role is not just a job; it's a mission to ensure that specialised and mainstream technology is accessible, empowering, and can provide confidence and independence to people with vision impairments.

My work is a testament to the fact that with the right support and determination, remarkable things can be achieved, irrespective of one's physical limitations.

Beyond my professional life, I am an avid traveller. I believe the world has so much to offer, and my blindness does not deter me from exploring its wonders. My experiences are a vivid tapestry of sounds, scents, textures and tastes, allowing me to perceive the beauty of our planet in a profoundly unique way. Traveling as a blind woman is a declaration that disability does not equate to inability, and it's a narrative I'm eager to share with the world.

International Women's Day is significant to me because it embodies the essence of empowerment and recognition. It's a day to acknowledge that our struggles and triumphs as women are immensely diverse yet equally valuable. For women in the disability community, it's an opportunity to shine a light on our accomplishments and the barriers we overcome daily. It's about changing the narrative from one of limitations to one of limitless potential.

Empowering and uplifting other women, especially those within the disability community, is a core part of my identity. Through conversations, social media and my work, I strive to be a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration. This International Women's Day, let's celebrate the incredible achievements of all women, recognise the unique challenges faced by disabled women, and continue to push for a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive, irrespective of her abilities or disabilities.

As we commemorate this day, let's remember that our voices, our stories and our victories, no matter how big or small, contribute to the rich tapestry of women's experiences worldwide. Let's use this day to amplify our voices, celebrate our achievements, and continue to advocate for a more inclusive and equitable world for all women.
