Guide Dogs Life
We record updates every three months for current and future guide dog owners. These are called Guide Dogs Life and have evolved from our Guide Dogs Live webinars.
Each one features guest speakers from across the organisation, who discuss topical issues, answer your questions and share more about what’s happening in the world of Guide Dogs.
You can put your questions to us for future instalments by emailing questions@guidedogs.org.uk, or calling 0118 354 0322 and leaving a voice message.
I have very much enjoyed the webinars as they help me feel connected to Guide Dogs’ larger family, which I like.
Catch-up on updates you’ve missed
11 March 2025
Hear from Andrew Lennox, our CEO, about our new strategy and long-term plans for the future. We also discuss what we’re doing this year to find suitable guide dogs for those who’ve been waiting the longest.
28 November 2024
Andrew Lennox, our CEO, and Pete Osborne, Deputy CEO, updated on 2024 so far and our priorities for next year. We also heard from the first Guide Dog Mobility Specialist to qualify through Academy, and about our new Partnership Funds.
12 September 2024
Access refusals, how to choose the right technology for you, and the huge contribution our volunteer puppy raisers make, were among the topics discussed.
13 June 2024
Members of our leadership team discussed the organisational changes being made at Guide Dogs, and Judith Potts, founder of Esme’s Umbrella, spoke about Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS), a condition where people experience hallucinations caused by loss of sight.
21 March 2024
Pete Osborne, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, gave an update on the guide dog service, Maria Rogan, Head of Guide Dog Service Operations, talked about the guide dog matching process, and Caroline Goulton, one of our vets, discussed dog health.
7 December 2023
A training special including an update on Academy (our training programme for Guide Dog Trainers and Mobility Specialists), how we use food to train our dogs, and an introduction to our new guide dog service online resource.
27 September 2023
We said hello to Andrew Lennox, our new CEO, discussed the work of our Vision Rehabilitation Specialists and how they can support you while you’re waiting for a guide dog, and gave advice about fireworks.
22 June 2023
On our first webinar, there was an update on guide dog waiting times, a discussion about why we use positive reinforcement to train our dogs, and hot weather advice.
It was reassuring to hear directly from Guide Dogs staff about the level of commitment to reduce waiting times, and that I wasn’t alone. The second and third webinars have been perfectly timed with my training and post-qualification so have been really relevant.
