What is a Community Hub?
A Community Hub is a community of Guide Dogs volunteers across all different roles within a specific location. They are led by a volunteer called a Community Hub Coordinator.
What is the purpose?
To bring local volunteering communities closer together but also to improve your volunteering experience! We are hoping the hubs will enable volunteers to communicate and support each other, whilst keeping everyone informed of key updates at Guide Dogs. The hub is also an opportunity to get involved with activities or opportunities outside of your typical volunteering role to further support local needs. Overall, we want to ensure that our volunteers are put front and centre and receive the best volunteering experience!
What is a Community Hub Coordinator?
We have two lead volunteer roles that support the Community Hubs, these are Community Hub Coordinator and Deputy Community Hub Coordinator. Community Hub Coordinators are responsible for supporting and managing the Community Hub. Deputy Community Hub Coordinator will support with elements of this or manage small areas of the Community Hub. These activities can involve communicating updates to the Community Hub, promoting our services in your local area, and supporting volunteers in their volunteering journey. A perfect role for those wanting to get involved more and take on extra responsibilities!
How involved do I need to be?
The great thing about the hub is that you can get involved however much or little you want to. You don’t have to take on any extra volunteering responsibilities. It can be just a way for you to find out about key updates and contact other volunteers in your area.
How to get involved
This platform is a space to keep updated on Guide Dogs in your area. Not tech savvy? We have staff members dedicated to give you any support that you might need or we can give any key updates in your preferred format. Your Community Hub will be hosting in-person events giving you the opportunity to meet your fellow volunteers in-person.
We also really value feedback, so if you decide the hub is something not quite for you, then please let us know the reasons why.
