Forward is Guide Dogs’ magazine for supporters, clients and the general public. First published in 1943, each edition is packed with news, events and stories about the amazing people and dogs involved with us, from owners and volunteers to trainers and fundraisers.
Welcome to the spring/summer 2021 edition of Forward!
This issue gives a glimpse of some of our celebrations of this year’s 90th anniversary. On page 11 you can find out about the short, animated film we’ve made featuring a pup named after one of our very first guide dogs, Flash. Actor Joanna Page provided the audio description for the animation, and lent her voice to a special audiobook about Flash.
As well as marking our history, this edition includes much that’s new. You can read about our new children’s service, My Time to Play, in a feature on pages 28-29. Young readers with sight loss will be happy to hear that our popular service, CustomEyes Books, has a new digital shop – find out more on page 27.
Did you see BBC One’s Great British Menu in the spring? If so, you’ll have noticed that the series’ Champion of Champions, Daniel McGeorge, made a dessert inspired by our founders, Muriel Crooke and Rosamund Bond. There’s more about his victory on page 10.
We hope you enjoy this issue of the magazine.
