As with all more complex journeys, you should first consider if it is appropriate to undertake a trip by boat or ship with your dog. Guide dogs are not routinely familiarised or trained in this mode of transport and there are health and welfare implications to consider. We therefore ask that all guide dog owners contact their dog welfare representative via Guide Line to discuss this further prior to booking. You can call Guide Line on 0800 7811444 (open Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm) or alternatively, contact the assistance dog organisation that trained your dog for advice. You should also read and familiarise yourself with the section on the welfare considerations page.
We ask all our owners to take into consideration that there is no provision of veterinary care available to their dogs during water or cruise travel and therefore they must be aware of the risks to their dog's health and welfare should a medical emergency occur mid-voyage.
