What else can I do?

We have nearly 100 different volunteer roles at Guide Dogs! These range from looking after our dogs, to helping someone with a visual impairment, to raising our vital funds. There is a volunteer role for everyone based on their interests, preferences, and availability.

If you are interested in volunteering with our dogs, here is a tool to help you with deciding what dog related volunteer role might be right for you. Which volunteer role?

Want a role away from our dogs? Have a look at our role descriptions to see which volunteer role might be right for you!

If you want to talk about any of these roles in more detail, you can talk to your local Volunteering Coordinator. They can give you detail of what roles are available in your area and specific information of what the role involves. Some of our roles may not be available all year round but you can check in with your local Volunteering Coordinator to see when volunteering opportunities are available again.

How do I apply?

The great news is, as an existing volunteer, it is super easy to get involved in an additional volunteer role! All you need to do is to contact your local Volunteering Coordinator or your key contact. They will arrange getting an internal reference, so that you can begin the process of volunteering in your new role. Your key contact for your new volunteering role will organise getting yourself interviewed and trained for your new role. If you are approved during interview and training, you will then be ready to volunteer in your new role, it’s as easy as that! Please note that some roles may require a DBS check.

I only have a small amount of time to give with my existing role…

No problem at all! We have a very handy section on our website, which offers small actions that can make a lasting impact! These activities can range from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours; depending how much time you can give. There is also a range of activities that suits different interests and preferences. The great news as well is they involve minimal sign up! To find out more, please see help us from home.

I have a specialist skill to offer…

That’s great! We really value having people on board who can support our services through their specialised skills and experience. We have had a variety of individuals that have supported our services through project management, social media, marketing and much more! This can either be short-term or long-term, whichever suits best for you. If you feel like you have a specialised skill that could support our services, then please enquire with your local Volunteering Coordinator about the specialist volunteer role.
